Police on Friday said that they will launch a crackdown against quacks, following the arrest of four of them in the city.
City Police Commissioner T. Rajendiran told reporters here that based on information, four persons- Edwin Das, Arputharaj, P.K. Raja and Murugavel were arrested recently.
“We have prepared a list of quacks and we would be soon clamping down on them,” he said.
Complaints were received that persons not qualified in allopathy medicine were practicing it, the police started it's investigation.
The arrested quacks were picked up from different parts of the city, he added.
Observing that crimes relating to internet banking had been on the rise, police will hold a meeting with local heads of banks to strengthen their systems against online frauds like phishing and credit card malpractices.
“We want the banks to give net banking facilities only to customers who are computer-savvy, though the banks have been giving them to most of them. Some persons even lack the knowledge to differentiate between a genuine and fake home page of a bank’s website” (which results in phising, i.e., theft of identity and password to swindle money), Rajendiran said.
He said the meeting with bank officials was expected to be held in the first week of July. He expressed satisfaction with the security measures put in by most banks in terms of physical infrastructure, including CCTV cameras in bank premises and ATM centres but said more banks need to follow suit.
He also announced that the city police had recovered stolen property including cars and jewels, besides cash.
