Police medals for 25 TN officers

The Central Government has announced awards for 25 police officers from Tamil Nadu, on the eve of Republic Day, on Saturday.

The recognition takes into account overall performance, achievement and reputation of the officers.

According to a release, sub-inspector T. Alwin Sudhan, who was murdered in Sivagangai district in 2012, while on duty during Thevar Jayanthi celebrations, will be awarded the police medal for gallantry, posthumously.

Senior officers who will receive the police medal for distinguished service are Sanjay Arora, additional director-general of police (ADGP), operations; Sunil Kumar, ADGP, TN Police Transport Corporation; and Shakeel Akhter, inspector-general (IG), headquarters.

Twenty-one officers of other ranks have been awarded the police medal for meritorious service. They include R. Dhinakaran, joint commissioner of police, traffic (south), Chennai; S. Panneerselvam, deputy commissioner of police, traffic (west), Chennai; C. Cruz Michael, deputy commandant, and S. Justin Devadoss, inspector, both of Tamil Nadu Special Police XII battalion, Manimuthar; C. Pauline, deputy superintendent of police (DSP), and V. Boopalan, special sub-inspector (SSI), both of Tamil Nadu Police Academy, Chennai; C. Charles, assistant commandant, and C. Lakshmikanthan, inspector, both of Tamil Nadu Special Police III battalion, Veerapuram; S. Sundaravadivel, DSP, Cuddalore sub-division; J. Udaya Sankar, DSP, vigilance and anti-corruption, Cuddalore; M. Kummaraja, inspector, Manapparai police station; N. Gajapathy, inspector, Kannagi Nagar police station, Chennai; T. Udaya Sankar, inspector, anti-dacoity cell, Chennai; Velan Subramani, inspector, Chunambedu police station, Kancheepuram; J. Nagarajan, inspector, Tirupur North police station, Tirupur; A. Sadasivam, inspector, vigilance and anti-corruption, Coimbatore; M. Bakkiammal, sub-inspector, all-women police station, T. Nagar, Chennai; R. Sankaravadivelu, SSI, district special branch, Thanjavur; G. Rajaram, SSI, Teynampet, Chennai; S. Subramanian, SSI, Vadapalani, Chennai; and C. Sobhanan, SSI, vigilance and anti-corruption, Coimbatore.

Meanwhile, the Union finance ministry has conferred the presidential award of certificate in appreciation of specially-distinguished record of service on J.M. Kennedy, director, tax research unit.

K. Subbian, DSP, CBI-ACB Chennai, has been selected for the President’s Award for Meritorious Service and S.B. Sankar, additional superintendent of police, CBI, EOW, has been selected for the President’s Award for Distinguished Service.
