Police intercept gas stove consignment

Police on Wednesday evening intercepted a consignment containing more than 2,000 gas stoves at Kodambakkam based on information that they were meant for distribution to voters.

According to police sources, some local people informed the Kodambakkam police that a few persons who were unloading the gas stoves at a godown in the Puliyur area had planned to distribute them to voters.

A special team reached the spot within minutes and made enquires with those involve in the activity. “Investigation is on to ascertain whether the gas stoves were meant for distribution. We have sealed the godown to facilitate further investigation,” a police official said.

In a separate development, police seized Rs.17 lakh from a car in Washermenpet on Wednesday. During a routine vehicle check, police found the cash in a car owned by Samuna Das, a petrol bunk owner. The cash was handed over to the Revenue Department officials for further enquiry, police sources added.
