The Adyar traffic investigation team has identified the motorcyclist who fell from the Sardar Patel Road flyover with a woman pillion rider on Tuesday afternoon. The rider's condition remains critical while the woman surprisingly escaped being hurt despite the 25-feet fall.

Traffic police sources identified the motorcyclist as construction worker Ramesh alias Kutty (26) of Ilango Street in RA Puram and the pillion rider as a 21-year-old woman who is his wife's colleague at a clinic in Mandaveli.

The accident took place around 2.40 pm on Tuesday on the flyover when the motorcyclist Ramesh who was riding with his friend in the pillion attempted to take a turn towards LB Road.

"Ramesh who was speeding, lost control and rammed the bike into the railing of the flyover. On impact he and the woman fell off the flyover onto traffic below at Adyar signal," investigating officer Ravikumaran of Adyar traffic investigation said.

While Ramesh fell on the road below and suffered severe head injuries, the young woman landed on a jeep belonging to Chennai Corporation which cushioned her fall, the officer added.

Ramesh was rushed to a private hospital nearby while the woman fled the spot and later informed Ramesh's wife Rosy.

Doctors at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital have declared him 'brain dead'.
