The father of a boy, who drowned in a swimming pool in a city school recently, has filed a petition before the Madras High Court stating that the police inspector connected with the case had neither examined him nor any of his relatives in connection with the tragedy.
Nine-year-old Ranjan (in picture) died in the swimming pool of Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan Senior Secondary School, K.K. Nagar, on August 16.
In the petition, R.N.R. Manohar of Alwar, Thirunagar, said he understood that an affidavit had been filed by the inspector before the court claiming that he had examined the petitioner and his wife.
Manohar said he had not been examined. His family was ready to cooperate in the investigation, and he wanted to know the truth as to what had happened, he added. The police had not questioned a single student of his son’s class who had been present in the swimming pool when the tragic incident occurred, he claimed.
He asked the court to permit him to implead himself in the writ petition filed in connection with the occurrence.
In the order, the First Bench comprising Chief Justice M.Y. Eqbal and Justice T.S. Sivagnanam, said the investigation report had not been produced. The government pleader submitted that the investigation would be completed in a week and the report would be placed before the court. The Bench said, in its view, the counsel may raise such objections only after the submission of the final report. So far as allegations of non-examination were concerned, the parents were at liberty to file an affidavit and explain their stand.
