PMK candidate seeks fresh poll in Aravakurichi

May 20, 2016 12:00 am | Updated September 12, 2016 07:26 pm IST - CHENNAI:

Pattali Makkal Katchi’s (PMK) candidate for the Aravakurichi constituency, where polling was deferred, moved the Madras High Court on Thursday seeking a direction to the Election Commission to conduct a fresh election in the constituency debarring candidates who allegedly bribed voters.

The petitioner, M. Baskaran, said 36 candidates were in the fray in the constituency, including K.C. Palanisamy of the DMK and V. Senthil Balaji of the AIADMK.

Alleging that the DMK and AIADMK candidates were involved in bribing voters on a large scale, Mr. Baskaran said the Election Commission had failed to prevent the abuse of the model code of conduct.
