In a major drive against video piracy, personnel of the Central Crime Branch of Chennai Suburban Police seized around 20,000 pirated video compact discs of the latest Tamil and obscene films on Friday. The raid was conducted by different police teams simultaneously on Tiruneermalai Road, Pammal Main Road and three shops on Pallavaram Railway Station Road.

Police said the pirated CDs included those of latest films like Pensingam, for which Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had penned the script, Surya starrer Singam, Maniratnam’s Raavanan, Maanja Velu, Milaga, Veluthu Kattu and Ambasamudiram Ambani, among others. CDs of obscene films were also seized. Police said they were purchased in bulk from Puducherry and Burma Bazaar in the city and sold to regular customers in Pammal and Pallavaram. The value of the seized CDs has been put at Rs. 20 lakh.
