Flight AI 143 heading to Delhi from Chennai which was to depart at 9.45 a.m. on Saturday morning left only at 11.40 a.m. because of a disagreement between pilot Captain Maniklal and AI flight engineer Kannan according to airport sources. In the argument that followed Captain Maniklal allegedly assaulted Mr. Kannan who suffered a minor injury and had to be taken to a nearby hospital. The flight which was carrying 118 passengers subsequently left only at 11.40 a.m. to Delhi with pilot Krishnakumar flying the aircraft.

When contacted an Air India official said, “The management is going to investigate the matter and take further action. Captain Maniklal will not be able fly until the investigation is complete.”
