Woman from Padappai approaches HC

Annoyed by hundreds of pigs running freely in her locality, threatening chidlren and affecting the health of residents, a woman from Padappai near Chennai has approached the Madras High Court seeking immediate relief.

Allowing the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition moved by Yasodha Ammal, the First Bench of Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M. Sundar has passed an interim order directing the authorities concerned to relocate the pigs. The court also directed the Government Pleader to file a status report by June 20.

According to the petitioner, a resident of Panchayat Union Office Road in Padappai, the area around the office was infested with the animals which were a general nuisance.

She said she had approached the local administration and the District Collector, but in vain.
