A photographer of a Tamil daily and a woman were allegedly attacked by some persons in the press hall on the Commissionerate premises here on Tuesday.

According to police sources, the woman from Puducherry - who got married to a man against the will of her family - came running into the press hall fearing an attack and sought help. A few of her relatives who followed started attacking her, causing bleeding injuries.

The photographer Seenivasan who tried to rescue the girl was allegedly attacked. He took photographs of the injured woman. “Though many policemen were around none intervened. The accused walked out of the Commissionerate,” Mr. Seenivasan said.

When journalists represented the matter, Commissioner of Police T. Rajendran promised to take appropriate action.
