Photocopies of answer scripts

Photocopies of as many as 64,000 answer scripts were made by the Directorate of Government Examinations following requests from the students who wrote the higher secondary school examination this year. The practice of the students is to seek the copies before applying for the process of revaluation or recounting.

Out of the 3,300 students who applied for the revaluation, 2,020 saw a change in their marks. “Some of the students saw an increase, while for some the total went down following the revaluation,” said an official in the Directorate of Government Examinations, which recently completed the process for Class XII students.

According to officials in the department, the number of answer scripts sought this year was a record. Last year, a total of 43,000 answer scripts were issued. Getting a photocopy of the answer script of one or more subject is the first step before applying for revaluation or recounting. Examiners say the process of seeking the photocopy of a subject, showing it to teachers to see if the student deserved more marks and only then applying has made the evaluation system more foolproof.

But, there are many students who are disappointed too. “We have over a couple of cases who even go for an appeal in court, as revaluation is the final stage we handle,” said the official.
