The Madras High Court on Monday adjourned by four weeks further hearing on a writ petition seeking a direction to authorities to arrest Sri Lankan Minister Douglas Devananda, an absconding accused in a city murder case.
The First Bench, comprising Chief Justice M.Y. Eqbal and Justice D. Murugesan, adjourned the case after Additional Solicitor-General M. Ravindran produced a letter from the Union Home Ministry seeking time for filing a counter.
In his petition, P. Pugalenthi, a city advocate, had stated that the Choolaimedu police here had registered a case against the Sri Lankan Minister in connection with the murder of Thirunavukkarasu.
Absconding accused
The VI Additional Sessions Judge had issued a proclamation warrant against Mr. Devananda, treating him as an absconding accused.
