Kuppai Matters is organising its next edition of Kuppai Thiruvizha, a zero-waste fest, in Perambur. An initiative of Citizen Consumer and Civic Action Group (CAG), Kuppai Matters encourages residents to reduce, reuse, repair and recycle waste.
According to Kripa Ramachandran, a member of CAG, Permabur was chosen due to its proximity to the Kodungaiyur landfill. “Residents and institutions have been vocal about problems resulting from this dumping ground.
This fest is attempt to make these voices more audible. Besides, Perambur is easily accessible and equipped with basic infrastructure. We plan to conduct the next edition near Perungudi.”
The event will have stalls that will introduce eco-friendly alternatives to plastics, organic foods and composting equipment. Themes such as home segregation and composting, plastic upcycling, glass art and paper crafts and sustainable menstruation will be discussed through workshops.
Promoting the concept of repair, visitors can fix their worn-out shoes, clothes and bags. There will also be a collection point for old and unused clothes. Visitors can also participate in open-mic sessions, ‘Life Of Plastic’ and ‘Citizen’s Corner’.
