Pelicans, which have already been spotted in inland water-bodies besides Vedanthangal this season, can also be found looking for food in the Chembarampakkam lake.

Enquiries reveal that these birds, which used to visit Vedanthangal in large numbers between October and February, have been spotted in water bodies with low water levels in Kelambakkam, Mamallapuram and other places in the recent past.

This year, they were spotted at the Nathapettai lake on the outskirts of Kancheepuram. They were also seen skimming the waters at Chembarambakkam on Monday, where the water level has depleted drastically in view of the monsoon failure and poor inflow of Krishna water.
