The Regional Passport Office in Chennai is changing its 50-year-old address on Haddows Road, Nungambakkam, and moving to swanky new premises at Rayala Towers on Anna Salai.

Regional Passport Officer C. Senthil Pandian said the operations of the old passport office had been fully closed and files and other documents moved into the new premises.

“We have put up notices at the Haddows Road office directing applicants to visit the new office for any enquiry or clarifications,” he said.

The new passport office will begin full-fledged operations from June 25.

Located on the fourth floor in the Rayala Towers building, the passport office is spread over a large area and will be open between 9.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. There is also a dedicated counter for issue of diplomatic and officials passports.

Two counters have been earmarked for enquiries from applicants, another for the verification officer and also a separate counter for police report clearance. Scanning of documents will be handled at a dedicated counter, Mr. Senthil Pandian said.

Unlike the old premises, where people had to wait for long hours in a cramped office, the Rayala Towers facility is air-conditioned and spacious, an official said.
