While thanking the Southern Railway for the creation of a parking lot on the western side of Tambaram Sanatorium railway station, residents of East Tambaram, Chitlapakkam and Hasthinapuram have requested the officials of State Highways Department to create a parking lot on the eastern side of the station, right below the flyover.

At present, these people park their vehicles at the parking lot on the western side or on both sides of Chitlapakkam Main Road or on the pavements, hindering free flow of traffic. K. Dayanand, president, Pradeep and Karthik Avenue Residents Welfare Association, Chitlapakkam, says, “The space beneath the flyover on the eastern side could be used as a parking lot. Instead, it is being used to dump garbage. At night, the space is used as an open bar by some people. In reply to our petition, the CM’s Cell stated that steps would be taken if a representation was made by the Chitlapakkam Selection Grade Town Panchayat.

We have forwarded the reply to the panchayat, and are yet to receive a response from them. Efforts to contact the executive officer of the Panchayat proved futile. A State Highways Department official said steps could be taken to construct the parking slot only after conducting a viability study.
