The Federation of Residents' Associations of Anna Nagar Western Extension and Mogappair on Sunday appealed to the State government to develop multi-level parking facilities adjacent to Metro Rail stations.
The proposal was made at a meeting organised by the Federation to discuss the measures for improvement of infrastructure in the areas.
It proposed re-development of slums for providing better housing facilities for residents in the neighbourhood.
This may provide solution to problems of parking and give better housing facilities for such residents, said J.M.S. Nagarjunan, joint secretary of Anna Nagar Western Extension Association.
Representatives of over 50 residents' associations in Ambattur Municipality participated in the meeting and expressed their approval for the move towards expansion of the Chennai Corporation limits.
Speakers stressed the need for speedy completion of infrastructure developmental activities and better civic amenities.
One of the resolutions adopted at the meeting called for inclusion of the proposed Metro line between Moolakkadai and Thirumangalam, through Ambattur and Mogappair, to be taken up in the first phase itself. It wanted the authorities to explore the possibilities of providing parking spaces for vehicles around stations.
A steering committee has also been constituted to bring all welfare associations functioning in Ambattur Municipality under the new Federation, said T.V.Rajamohan, president of the Federation.
