A man and his wife allegedly poisoned their two children and later committed suicide in Guindy here early on Thursday.
According to police sources, Ismail Sathak (38) of Pachaiyamman Temple Street near Railway Link Road, his wife Mahaj Bin (30) and son Mohammed Isaq (3) were found dead in their bedroom while his two-month-old daughter Fatima was battling for life. She was rushed to a private hospital where her condition was said to be stable. Sathak, an iron scrap merchant, returned from Puducherry late on Wednesday. His father Abdul Khader (60), who returned from a mosque around 6 a.m. , found the bedroom door partly open. When he called his son, there was no response. Sensing trouble, Khader called neighbours and relatives.
Preliminary enquiries revealed that Sathak was depressed over some loss in business. After one of his iron scrap consignments was intercepted by an intelligence agency, he was worried over being called for an enquiry. The bodies were shifted to the Government Royapettah Hospital for post-mortem. The couple mixed poison in milk and gave it to their children before consuming it themselves, the sources added.
