A court-appointed monitoring committee has directed government departments to communicate to all officials to ensure that no illegal hoardings, digital banners and placards are put up.
This was submitted by the Chennai Corporation before the First Bench comprising Chief Justice S.K. Kaul and Justice M.M. Sundresh on Monday when a contempt petition by social activist ‘Traffic’ Ramaswamy came up. Earlier, the court appointed Justice S.Rajeswaran, a retired High Court Judge, as the chairperson of the panel to submit a report on illegal digital banners and hoardings.
During the last hearing, it slammed the State government for not providing even infrastructure for the committee.
When the matter came up, Chennai Corporation Commissioner Vikram Kapur filed a counter affidavit, through counsel R. Arunmozhi, stating that the government had provided the necessary infrastructure and amenities for the panel.
The committee held a meeting on March 13 and issued a series of directives to officials.
The court ordered that the officials should be present in court on April 7.
