Over Rs. 4 crore siezed

Election Commission officials have seized over Rs. 4 crore in two places in the city during its raids conducted on the basis of specific inputs.

Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni said Rs. 3.58 crore was seized from a private premise in Nandanam and Rs. 42 lakh was seized from a politician near Puzhuthivakkam. Raids were on in Aravakurichi and Villupuram, where money “running into crores” was being seized. “They are still counting the money and the exact amount will be known only on Wednesday,” he said.

Since the Model Code of Conduct came into effect on March 4, about Rs. 92 crore in cash has been seized by election expenditure monitoring officials.
