Over 500 candidates waitlisted for MBBS seats

As of Friday, the fifth day of single-window counselling for MBBS seats in government medical colleges, over 500 candidates have been waitlisted. The number includes 201 candidates who were waitlisted on Thursday and 340 candidates on Friday.

On Friday, 176 candidates were allotted seats in government medical colleges; 65 seats were allotted in self-financing medical colleges; and 12 in ESIC Medical College in K.K. Nagar. Thirteen candidates were given allotment in the government dental college.

Of the total 653 candidates invited for counselling on Friday, only 608 appeared. As many as 534 will be called on Saturday, the last day of the first session of counselling. As of Friday, seats are available only in the SC, SCA and ST categories.

The cut-off of the last candidate who was allotted a seat on Friday was 195.25 marks.

Medical Education Secretary G. Selvarajan said that so far 2,344 seats had been allotted in government and self-financing medical colleges and 62 were allotted in the government dental college.

Under the special category, 23 candidates were allotted and 26 candidates have opted out. Counselling for 398 seats reserved for candidates under the All India Quota is expected to be held after the results of the National Entrance and Eligibility Test is released.

The second edition of Neet is to be held on July 24.
