The number of polling booths in Chennai district has increased to 3,768 with Perambur (287 booths) emerging as the constituency having the largest number of booths.
During the previous Assembly elections, Chennai district had 3,699 polling booths and 72 auxiliary booths.
Chennai District Election Officer D. Karthikeyan released the draft electoral rolls on Tuesday following the special summary revision of rolls. With maximum number of voters at 3.07 lakh, Velachery continues to retain the top position among the 16 constituencies in the district for six years in a row.
According to draft electoral rolls, 40.73 lakh electors have been enrolled in the 16 Assembly constituencies. As many as 20.13 lakh men, 20.59 lakh women and 978 others are on the rolls. The number of electors on the draft electoral rolls published last year in Chennai district was 39.87 lakh.
Names deleted
The Chennai District Election office has deleted names of 8,701 men and 8,002 women from the rolls.
Names of 16,081 men and 16,473 women have been included in the rolls.
In 2012, Perambur lost the top position among the 16 constituencies to Velachery on account of deletion of a large number of electors in many localities.
Break-up of voters
This year, the number of voters in Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar is 2.65 lakh, Perambur – 2.99 lakh, Kolathur – 2.69 lakh, Villivakkam – 2.57 lakh, Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar – 2.22 lakh, Egmore – 1.93 lakh, Royapuram – 1.94 lakh, Harbour – 1.89 lakh, Chepauk-Triplicane – 2.35 lakh, Thousand Lights – 2.42 lakh, Anna Nagar – 2.92 lakh, Virugambakkam – 2.99 lakh, Saidapet – 2.88 lakh, T.Nagar – 2.5 lakh and Mylapore – 2.67 lakh.
The district election office has requested residents to enrol their names in the electoral rolls from October 3 to October 31 at zonal offices of Chennai Corporation.
A special camp will be held on October 8 and 22 in all polling booths for distribution and receipt of forms 6, 7, 8 and 8A.
Residents of the city are requested to visit www.elections.tn.gov.in to include names or change address.
