Over 2,000 students get offer letters from top IT companies

June 06, 2014 08:38 am | Updated 08:38 am IST - CHENNAI:

As many as 2,600 students from various engineering colleges affiliated to the Anna University are set to get offer letters from Cognizant Technology Solutions and Infosys.

Nine placement drives were held in the academic year 2013-14 in Chennai, Tirunelveli and Coimbatore zones through the Anna University’s Centre for University Industry Collaboration (CUIC) in which 24,000 candidates participated.  The students participated in group discussions, online aptitude and technical tests and an interview to assess their technical knowledge. The offer letters for Chennai zone students will be distributed at the Prathyusha Institute of Technology and Management in Tiruvalluvar on Friday afternoon. Coimbatore and Triunelveli zone students may collect their letters from Sri Eshwar College of Engineering in Kondampatti on June 13.

According to T. Thyagarajan, Director of CUIC, the placement process had four screening levels to filter students.

“Last year we had only three recruitment drives but this year despite economic slowdown and global recession we managed to increase placement. Also, only tier 1 colleges have the advantage of being recruited by top IT companies. But the State-level programme has ensured that opportunities are given to mofussil colleges also,” he added.

Details such as instructions to principals, placement officers and students and the names of students receiving the offer letters have been uploaded on the Anna University website (www. annauniv.edu).  Placement officers may contact AU-CUIC (044-22358994, cuic@annauniv.edu) for further clarifications.
