Over 10,000 to be recruited to police force

As many as 10,060 persons will be added to the police force shortly.

A release issued here on Friday said that Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had ordered recruitment against vacancies. Those who had already been selected would join duty once they completed the formalities such as medical test and good conduct examination.

The release said that the 3 per cent reservation for the Arundhatiyar community meant that 293 persons from that community gained. Also, the 3.5 per cent for Muslims amounted to 263 persons from that community being recruited. As many as 2069 Adi Dravidars, 94 belonging to the scheduled castes, 3,343 from the Backward Classes and 2681 from the Most Backward Classes had been recruited. Of the women who applied for the uniformed services selection, as many as 2673 had been selected.

The break-up of the total vacancies is as follows: SI – 1095; constables – 8,944; jail warders – 486 and fire force – 630.
