The Tiruvallur police impounded 110 litres of illicit liquor during raids conducted in parts of the district bordering Andhra Pradesh on Sunday.

During the joint operation organised with their counterparts in Andhra Pradesh, they also seized 14,000 litres of raw material. Both the liquor and raw material was later destroyed.

The surprise checks, conducted by the Enforcement and Prohibition Wing, were aimed at preventing the sale of illicit products on Republic Day, when the sale of liquor is banned.

The raids were held in areas such as Mangalam, Illathoor, Chathiravada Colony and Ayyankandigai.
