It is time that people oust the Dravidian parties and choose a corruption-free government that works for the common man’s welfare, senior CPI (M) leader and freedom fighter N.Sankaraiah said here on Tuesday.

Addressing a public meeting at Ramapuram to campaign for CPI (M) Maduravoyal candidate and sitting MLA G.Beem Rao, he termed both the Dravidian parties as corrupt. “There is not much difference between the Dravidian parties except for an additional letter ‘A’ as both are anti-people and have pro-corporate policies,” he charged.

Promising a corruption- free government that will strive to protect workers’ rights, Mr.Sankaraiah said students’ federations will be formed in every college to empower them with political knowledge.

The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam-People’s Welfare Front-Tamil Maanila Congress alliance will provide housing to poor, quality health care and free education when voted to power. Coaching centres will be created in every district to train aspiring sportspersons.

‘Ignore opinion polls’

Taking a dig at the opinion polls by various media houses, he said: “Do not underestimate the strength of the alliance. People must ignore such opinion polls.” Appreciating the Election Commission’s initiative to administer pledge for ethical voting among people, he said a good governance can be brought only if people are against cash for votes.

Earlier, listing out the schemes brought for the development of Maduravoyal constituency, Mr.Beem Rao said nearly 5,000 petitions have been received on various civic issues and were resolved. He said several civic projects were brought to the constituency when he was an MLA and dismissed the claims of rival parties. Besides good roads, the localities also have 19 small buses plying now. He also promised to provide government arts college, better government hospitals and more bridges in the constituency to ease traffic congestion. The performance of cultural troupe of the CPI (M) had the gathering entertained before the meeting.
