Residents of Perumbakkam have requested the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) to ply buses between Sholinganallur and Velachery via Sholinganallur-Medavakkam Road.

Earlier, M51 (T. Nagar - Sholinganallur) used to ply through Sholinganallur–Medavakkam Road, which cuts through Perumbakkam. Currently, the frequency of the service is low.

Therefore, residents proceeding to Velachery have no choice but to go to Medavakkam bus stop.

Route numbers 95 (Thiruvanmiyur – Tambaram East) and 99 (Adyar – Tambaram West) which ply through Sholinganallur–Medavakkam Road are overcrowded during rush hour, forcing commuters to go in for shareautorickshaws.

“Though buses 570 (Kelambakkam to CMBT), 570S (Siruseri IT Park to CMBT) and M119 (Guindy – Chemmanchery) go to Velachery through Sholinganallur, Karapakkam and Perungudi, on Rajiv Gandhi Salai, it takes nearly an hour for them to reach their destination, due to heavy traffic,” R. Raghu, a resident of Perumbakkkam, said.

Suggestion

Commuters suggested that a few services that are frequent and therefore receive good patronage, can be diverted through Sholinganallur –Medavakkam Road.

MTC officials said work had been started to identify new routes and introduce more bus services.
