ECI yet to update information

Incorrect data pertaining to the location of polling stations in Tamil Nadu, on Google Maps, is bothering electors who are trying to access information online.

A number of residents in urban areas such as Chennai are being misled by the obsolete data online. Electors visiting the website of the Election Commission of India, for information on polling station locations, get access only to bits of information generated a few years ago.

Engineers at a number of district election offices in the State have completed generation of data on new polling station locations but are yet to get clear instructions from the Election Commission of India.

Some of the content on websites related to elections has erroneous data on the contact number of officials such as the chief election officer, district election officer, electoral registration officer and booth-level officer.

After the notification of elections, such officials have started receiving calls from electors looking for information on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Districts such as Chennai with tech-savvy officials have generated new data on locating polling stations online.

Revised mapping of polling stations in designated locations in Parliamentary constituencies and vulnerable polling stations is likely to be taken up only after clear instructions from the Election Commission of India.

“All other information available online is not authorised by the Election Commission of India yet,” said an official.
