The Chennai Corporation will commence its online building approval system in Valasaravakkam zone next week as a first step towards helping residents in eight new zones get their dream houses approved quickly.
The project is expected to cover the other seven zones in one year. Zones such as Alandur will be included in the online approval system next month.
The Chennai Corporation has completed the first phase of training programme of the licensed surveyors in making use of the necessary technology for the online system. The civic body is also encouraging them to purchase the required software for the system.
After the expansion of the limits of the Corporation from 174 sq km to 426 sq km, the number of building plan proposals is expected to touch 15,000 every year.
So far, the civic body has been giving online approval to nearly 8,000 plans annually.
Delays persist
The online building approval system was introduced in 2009 and continues to face the challenge of time delay of a few months even today.
The system covers the seven zones of Tondiarpet, Royapuram, Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar, Anna Nagar, Kodambakkam, Teynampet and Adyar in the city today.
The eight outer zones that comprise the new areas of the city are still following manual processing of applications.
