One killed as mini cargo van overturns

A young man was killed and four others were injured when a mini cargo van overturned upside down after its driver lost control of the vehicle on Grand Southern Trunk Road in Meenambakkam early on Tuesday.

A.Dhanasekar (30) and his younger brother A.Dhanashankar (24) were living in Zamin Raayapettai, Chromepet. Vegetable merchants, the brothers left for the wholesale vegetable market in Koyambedu in the wee hours of Tuesday. They hired the mini cargo van at Koyambedu in which they loaded the vegetables. They were on their way back home in the vehicle, driven by Murugan. Near the traffic signal at the intersection of GST Road, Murugan reportedly lost control of the vehicle after jamming the brakes all of a sudden. The vehicle turned upside down. The brothers, driver Murugan and two others in the vehicle – Nandakumar and Janakiraman, sustained injuries. They were all taken in a government ambulance to Tambaram Taluk Government Hospital in Chromepet for treatment, where doctors pronounced Dhanasankar, dead on arrival. After treatment, Murugan, was arrested by St. Thomas Mount Traffic Police (Investigation).
