In the last weekend of July, alumni of Don Bosco School Egmore, from around the world, will not just jog down memory lane and relive their memories of ‘Haneef the ice-cream man’, but will also be able to listen to noted alumni share their stories, and others fill the school ground with rock anthems.

“This is the biggest of its kind so far in terms of scale and reach. And, we are looking at anywhere between 1,000- 1,200 participants,” says Ashwin Rajagopalan, the convenor of Converge — Don Bosco Egmore’s global reunion.

The two-day event, scheduled to be held on July 26 and 27, is expected to draw alumni spanning over four decades beginning 1962. Put together by a 30-member organising committee, the alumni meet is being organised by the Don Bosco Past Pupils Association Egmore.

Converge, which will begin with a ‘classic re-enactment of the school assembly’, will host events such as a carnival, ‘DB Click’, a gallery of old photographs contributed by the alumni; ‘Crocker nets’, which they call a “signature DB sport”; ‘School of Rock’ which will see performances by Jim Sathya and Shyam Rao among others; the ‘great DB quiz’ which will be conducted by alumni Sumanth Raman; a car rally and a Golf morning among others.

On day 1, at the ITC Grand Chola, alumni such as Vijay Amritraj, Aravind Swamy, Keshav Murugesh V. Sumantran and Armaan Ebrahim will share the ‘secret of their success’. P. Nanda, president of the Association, said that some of the events are open to the public as well.

They said that the proceeds from the event will go towards supporting teaching and non-teaching staff, the science lab at the school as well as the community outreach projects of the Association. Those interested can contact 9840855875, and visit www.dbconverge.com.
