A day after the police crashed a gangster party and arrested 75 persons wanted for various offences, further investigation revealed that the birthday was only a cover to hatch a plan to ‘finish off’ a rival gang.

Gangster Binu, who celebrated his birthday, and his close accomplices managed to give the police the slip, and escaped from the lorry shed in Malayambakkam. Four special teams have been constituted to trace the accused Binu, Kanagu and Vicky alias Vignesh. Binu’s team was hoping to settle a running feud with the rival ‘CD’ Mani gang because of whom Binu had to be in hiding, police officials said.

The police received information about the party when they apprehended one of the guests during a vehicle check. Some of those arrested reportedly produced fake press, advocate and even police ID cards in a bid to evade arrest. More than 20 two-wheelers with advocate stickers were seized from them. Over 88 high-end mobile phone were recovered, apart from knives, machetes, and sickles.

Special teams

Joint Commissioner of Police Santhosh Kumar said: “Four special teams were constituted to capture the three key accused and a few others who managed to flee that night. Those arrested, including 20 college students, on Tuesday night were remanded to judicial custody.”

The call details of mobile phones seized would be analysed to explore their links with other criminals. According to police sources, realtors, hoteliers and political party functionaries also participated in the gathering.

Red sanders seized

Police on Thursday recovered red sanders weighing 400 kg from a pond near the place where the gang had gathered to celebrate. Further investigation is on.
