On tackling dementia

December 23, 2014 10:10 am | Updated 10:10 am IST - CHENNAI:

Former West Bengal Governor M.K. Narayanan on Saturday called upon people to donate generously towards the cause of dementia.

Speaking at the 5 anniversary of the Dignity Dementia Day Care Centre at Palavakkam, he commended the work of Dignity Foundation for enabling senior citizens to lead a life of dignity. The world over, 44 million people have dementia, he said, adding that there was a need for training people to provide support to persons with the condition.

Bharathanatyam guru V.P. Dhananjayan said, “If the mind is always engaged, dementia will not set it. If youngsters spend more time with aged persons, it helps,” he said.

Dignity Foundation Chennai chapter director K. Radhakrishnan said 20 persons with dementia were cared for at the centre every day.
