It was raining awards at an event organised by the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) here on Saturday. Children from Classes II to XII who secured state ranks at the Mathematics, Science, Cyber and English Olympiads were presented with medals and certificates.
Omamah Alchtar and Sanjuktha B of Vaels Billabong High School were among the winners. “I read a lot of books especially those on Greek mythology,” said Sanjuktha, who is one of the awardees in the English Olympiad. Speakers at the functions emphasised the importance of values and how to survive in the competitive world. Former Judge of Madras High Court Prabha Sridevan asked the students to “create a critical mass of excellence” by innovating and succeeding.
C. Rajendran, HOD, Department of Management Studies, IIT-Madras, asked students to compete with themselves. “Bring out the best in yourself and it does not matter whether you are first, second or third,” he said, adding that always be grateful to your parents and teachers.
