In what is suspected to be a murder for gain, the decomposed body of a 63-year-old woman was found inside her apartment in Jafferkhanpet on Wednesday afternoon.

The victim M. Visalakshi, an LIC agent, resided alone in her first floor flat in Ganga Nagar for over a decade following separation from her husband Muthuraman. The elderly woman's neighbours saw her last on Monday morning.

Around 1 pm on Wednesday, other flat owners alerted the police control room after foul smell emanated from the first floor flat. An MGR Nagar police team reached the spot and broke open the door, that was locked from outside, to find Visalakshi's decomposed body inside a bathroom locked from outside. Police suspect she was murdered by strangulation and the gold jewellery was robbed. Two unidentified men had visited the insurance agent's house on Monday afternoon after which she wasn't seen outside. Further probe under way.
