An old couple were found murdered in a gruesome manner at their house at Chengalpattu on Monday morning. A bureau was found ransacked.

According to police the murder came to light in the morning when passersby noticed blood stains at the entrance to the house of the victim, Paramanandham (80), on the First Avenue, Anna Nagar, and informed his daughter, Manjula, living on the same street.

Meanwhile, some others noticed that Paramanandham's body was lying in the nearby drainage canal. The Chengalpattu Town police rushed to the spot and found Paramanandham's wife, Saroja (70), murdered with her face smashed beyond recognition. Police sent the bodies for post-mortem to the Chengalpattu Medical College Hospital.

Preliminary police investigations suggest that Paramanandham, living with his wife, came out of his house during early hours when the culprits gained entry into the house. It is not clear what the intruders took away from the bureau.

One son of the couple, who is working as an engineer in the DAE establishment at Kalpakkam, lives in a rented house at Vallam on the Chengalpattu-Thirukazhukundram Road.

The other son, whose residence address is not known, used to call on his parents occasionally.
