Old baggage trolleys to vanish from airport soon

July 02, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:27 am IST - CHENNAI:

In a relief to passengers, new trolleys will replace the old ones in Chennai airport next month. Beginning August, 4,000 trolleys will be rolled out in a phased manner in the airport.

Airport director Deepak Shastri said a contract had been awarded to a private company — Ad Bureau Advertising Private Limited — for trolleys.

“We will carry out the maintenance periodically; they will look for revenue through advertisements in trolleys,” he added.

There is also a plan to bring in a facility to weigh baggage in the trolley itself.

Several passengers have been complaining about the poor state of trolleys in the airport for a while now.

Some even took to Twitter to express their frustration over lack of maintenance of trolleys in the airport. @srini091 posted: “Best is Chennai airport trolley. Push it towards Adyar and it goes to KK Nagar.”

Another passenger @everanuj posted: “Chennai airport trolley wheels are very bad and no one worried. Anyone passing through arrival at Chennai airport will testify.”
