Officials plead helplessness

December 10, 2014 02:41 am | Updated 02:41 am IST - CHENNAI

In Chennai, officials of the State Transport Department pointed out that at present there are no provisions to regulate call taxis operating through the online platform or telephone booking services.

Citing the ban on Uber operator by the Delhi government and rumours about banning the taxi operator in the city, the officials said as of now no decision has been taken on this. However, plans are on to bring in regulations to control these call taxi operators.

The City Traffic Police are clear that in the present circumstances and under the existing laws, they have very little to proceed on. A senior official of the Chennai Traffic Police said the transport department must enact fresh provisions to cover these segments.
