The Madras High Court on Wednesday directed the Health Secretary to instruct the appropriate authority to verify the credentials of five Siddha doctors within two weeks.

On receipt of the communication, the authority concerned should do the verification within two months, after notice to the doctors.

The First Bench consisting of Chief Justice SS.K. Kauland Justice M. M. Sundresh passed the order on a public interest litigation petition by S. Balachandran of Vadapalani here, a medical detailer and secretary of Makkal Sakthi, a voluntary organisation. The petitioner said several persons had made complaints to him against K. Sakthi Rajarajan, Syed Sathar, N. Shanmugam, P. Jayakumar and N. Selvaraj of Chennai and Tiruvallur districts.

The petitioner submitted that he issued notice to the five about their findings and also to the Drug Controller; Siddha Medical College Director; Tamil Nadu Medical Council Chairman and also to the Chennai Police Commissioner, but to no avail.
