The Madras High Court on Thursday ordered notice to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the Chennai Police on a writ petition seeking revocation of the CBFC certificate for Tamil feature film ‘Sattapadi Kuttram'.
Justice P. Jyothimani posted the matter for April 11 for further hearing. M.T. Arunan, counsel for the producer, took notice.
In his petition, the Hindu Dharma Sakthi, represented by its secretary N. Devasenathypathy of Manniwakkam, Tambaram, said that the public was shocked watching the movie, in which one of the characters, a Hindu 'sanyasi' wearing saffron dress, indulged in “illegal, deceitful, immoral and dishonest activities.” The character was totally unconnected to the movie's theme. It was inserted intentionally. There was no logic for showing a scene where the 'sanyasi' is shot by a police officer.
Mr. Devasenathypathy said that there were many “irresponsible and unwarranted” scenes relating to the judiciary. The various scenes would clearly establish the fact that the mass media had been deliberately misused by producer S.A. Chandrasekaran.
