Actor Vishal and former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s niece Deepa Jayakumar are likely to submit their nominations to the Returning Officer for the Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar Assembly constituency on Monday, the last day for filing nominations for the bypoll scheduled for December 21.

The AIADMK’s candidate, E. Madhusudanan, the DMK’s N. Marudu Ganesh and dissident AIADMK leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran are among the candidates who have entered the fray.

The R.K. Nagar byelection was necessitated by Jayalalithaa’s death in December last year. Though it was initially scheduled on April 12 this year, the bypoll was rescinded by the Election Commission following widespread allegations of bribery.

The Madras High Court had recently stated that it expected the byelection to the R.K. Nagar Assembly constituency to be held before December 31, following which the Election Commission announced December 21 as the date on which it would be conducted.

The candidates who wish to withdraw their nominations can do so by December 7. The counting of votes is scheduled for December 24.
