A total of 17 persons, including 10 on Tuesday, filed nomination for the post of Chennai Mayor. The 10 included candidates of Desiya Murppokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) and Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK).
The DMDK candidate G.Velmurugan (61), a resident of Ashok Nagar, has declared that he has movable assets worth Rs.2.56 crore and liabilities totalling Rs.1.50 crore. His educational qualification is PUC.
His wife has movable assets totalling Rs.86.1 lakh, and immovable property worth Rs.5.50 lakh.
The MDMK candidate N.Manoharan (49), a resident of Old Washermenpet, has declared that the present market value of his immovable assets was Rs.75 lakh. His wife has a similar 1,200 sq ft piece of property, valued at Rs.50 lakh.
The day also witnessed a large number of persons filing nominations for the posts of councillors of the civic body.
The last date for filing of nomination is September 29.
