For the second day, buses of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) were not operated from Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus, Koyambedu, on Wednesday.

A total of 27 buses plying from the city to Karnataka were suspended on Tuesday evening fearing violence after the denial of bail to former Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa.

Sources in KSRTC said a decision on operating buses was yet to be taken and there was a possibility that buses would resume services from 6 a.m. on Thursday. According to the police, KSRTC buses parked in Koyambedu were cordoned off and security was beefed up at the terminus to prevent untoward incidents.

“We have advised them to resume services by early morning for the convenience of the passengers,” said an official.

This was the second time KSRTC bus services were suspended in the past 10 days owing to the same reason.

However, buses operated by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation and State Express Transport Corporation plied to various destinations, including Bangalore, as usual.

Private omni buses too were operated and there were no cancellations since Tuesday.

Meanwhile, it was business as usual at the Koyambedu wholesale market complex as fruit, flower and vegetable shops remained open. Traders had downed shutters on Tuesday in solidarity with Ms. Jayalalithaa.
