Similar to Koyambedu and CMBT Metro Rail stations, the Arumbakkam station too grapples with problems of no footpaths, subways or foot-overbridges and lack of signages.

Though this station is located on the Inner Ring Road, there needs to be signage indicating the location of such a station at least 500 metres in and around it. But there are not enough signs to help commuters. For instance, MMDA Colony Road — located off Inner Ring Road and connecting Koyambedu with Poonamallee High Road — does not have signage to direct commuters to the station.

Unlike the other two stations, this is located on Inner Ring Road itself, which puts commuters of Metro Rail to great risk as there is not sufficient footpath at all. Most often, commuters are walking on the arterial road after exiting the station.

In the absence of a good footpath, there should have been at least a subway or foot-overbridge, but commuters have to struggle to cross the road since the station has neither.

Officials of Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. (CMRL) says they may install more signage for all stations along the stretch from Koyambedu to Alandur. But there is no clarity on the installation of subway or foot-overbridge for this station.

The first service of the Metro was launched in the last week of June. But access to the stations remains poor.
