No disparity in quantum of hike, clarifies government

Says transport staff received as much as govt. employees

The State government has claimed that there is no difference between the quantum of hike given to its staff and what has been decided in respect of employees of transport corporations.

This clarification comes in the wake of criticism that while the government employees’ pay has been increased by 2.57 times, it is 2.44 times for the transport corporations’ employees.

A statement by K. Shanmugam, Additional Chief Secretary (Finance), said a pay hike was effected after 10 years for government staff. After an increase with effect from January 1, 2006, the government did the next revisionf rom January 1, 2016.

‘Three revisions’

But, in the case of employees of the transport corporations, three revisions were carried out during the 10-year period. In 2010, the system of dearness allowance for the employees was changed from industrial DA to the government’s system of DA. Along with the pay revision done that year and in 2013, the quantum of hike was 1.055 times. If one were to multiply this figure (1.055) by the factor of 2.44 (which is being done through the latest pay hike), the quantum of hike would be 2.57 times.

As the revision for the employees of corporations took notional effect from January 1, 2016, it took only six years for them to get a hike as good as that of government employees, who had to wait 10 years, he said.
