Nine persons were arrested on Monday in connection with the robbery at the defunct SPIC Petrochemicals Limited on the Kossapur Main Road in Mannali.
The police said the main accused, V. Vadivelu (28), S. Dinesh (29), R. Ramesh (32), K. Prakash (30), S. Jegan (32), B. Rajesh (33), K. Ramadevan (35), V. Amulraj (38) and T. Durairaj (45) were arrested. While seven of the accused persons are from Manali, Rajesh is from Red Hills and Jegan is from Tiruvottiyur, the police said.
The police tracked down the culprits based on information they retrieved from a cell phone that was dropped by one of the members of the gang. The persons arrested on Monday were those involved in the raid.
In connection with previous robberies at the unit, the police had earlier arrested 15 persons.
“A case has been filed under section 397 (robbery) and 307 (attempt murder) of the Indian Penal Code. We are also looking for Sudersen, Ravi and Kumar as they are the ones who received the loot from the gang,” said an officer attached with the Madhavaram police.
Early on Sunday, a 30-member gang attacked security personnel at the unit and looted steel, copper and aluminum scrap worth lakhs of rupees.
