A 29-year-old woman died on the spot after being run over by an electric train near Chromepet railway station on Monday.

Personnel of Government Railway Police, Tambaram, said Uma Maheswari married Murugan less than a month ago. Murugan, a government employee, was currently posted in Pune. After her marriage, Uma Maheswari shifted to Pune.

Her father, Elumalai, had brought her to Chennai from Pune two days ago so that she could attend an interview at a private company in Chromepet. Uma Maheswari, who had completed her Masters in Business Administration, was staying with her father on MGR Street, Cholavaram in Chromepet.

On Monday morning, Elumalai dropped his daughter at the interview venue in Chromepet. After the interview, Uma Maheswari was returning home and was walking across the track at the railway level crossing near the Chromepet station, unaware of an approaching EMU, which hit her.

The stretch of a few hundred meters on either sides of Chromepet railway is among the most dangerous spots with many fatal accidents taking place every month.
