Husband found her body on Monday morning, on returning from a night shift

In another case of a newlywed committing suicide, a 27-year-old physiotherapist hung herself from the ceiling of her home in Chitlapakkam late on Sunday night. The incident came to light only when her husband returned home on Monday morning.

Chitlapakkam police said Padma Priya, working as a part-time physiotherapist at a private hospital and also at a technical institution, had married Giriraj, working with a cell phone service provider in Tiruchirapalli on October 18. They moved into a rented home on Kribananda Variyar Salai two days later.

On Sunday night, she hung herself in the bedroom of their home, while she was alone. Her husband, who returned from work after a night shift, found the body on Monday morning. In her complaint at the Chitlapakkam police station, 52-year-old Sivagami, mother of the victim, said the couple did not have any problems.

She added however, that some of Giriraj’s relatives had taken a keen interest in how much Padma Priya was earning through her jobs. Her daughter had reportedly been upset over this and this could have led her to taking the extreme step, police said.

Police added that an enquiry by the revenue divisional officer, Tambaram had been ordered.

In the past couple of weeks, there have been at least two cases of young people committing suicide around Tambaram.

While a software employee jumped to death from her office building, a young technician committed suicide within a month of his wedding.
