New UG, PG courses introduced

The Chennai-based Vel Tech Dr RR and Dr SR Technical University is introducing 33 new undergraduate and postgraduate courses encompassing various engineering and management streams to meet the multi-disciplinary skill requirements in manufacturing and service sectors in India.

B. Tech in Engineering Physics, B. Tech in Printing & Packaging, M. Tech in Financial Computing, M. Sc., in Econometrics, and MBA in ERP are among the pioneering courses that are being introduced by the university.

Students enrolling for the new courses can also avail integrated programme options to complete engineering as well as business administration courses. Under Vel Tech’s Semester Abroad Programme, a one-year study programme is offered in a foreign university.

Vel Tech has recently appointed R.P. Bajpai as the Vice-Chancellor of the university.

Commenting about the new courses, R. Rangarajan, Founder and Chancellor, said that India is entering a new multidisciplinary production technology to meet the market requirements of the 2lst century. To meet the evolving human resource needs of the industry, institutions have to gear up by offering innovative programmes that would ensure that students are industry-ready.

Talking about the industry-institute partnership, Mr. Bajapai said that the university has tie-ups with a large number of industries which provide inputs for courseware development - the university’s Board of Studies is being represented by eminent industrialists and entrepreneurs. Companies also partner with the university in research and development projects. The university has 280 faculty members, out of which 40 per cent of them are Ph.D holders, who are engaged in various research programmes worth Rs. 18 crores, in association with the industry.
