Hundreds of students of Chennai Corporation School in Saidapet on Tuesday had a taste of the noon meal scheme in store for them with a newly tweaked range of delicacies.

Minister for Rural Industries and Nutritious Noon Meal M.C. Sampath and Mayor Saidai S. Duraisamy were among those who participated in the first training programme for noon meal workers at the school. These workers in turn, will function as master trainers to train other workers.

Instead of the existing menu for students, trainer Chef Dhamu used the same set of ingredients to bring out 13 different dishes such as vegetable rice pulao, tomato rice and masala egg with a dash of pepper and coriander powder.

All the dishes were given to the students for their feedback. All the noon meal centres in the city will soon receive a CD of the training session. Similar training sessions have been planned in 43,000 noon meal centres across the State.

Minister M.C Sampath stressed the need for a dedicated approach on the part of the workers at all centres.

Wastage at noon meal centres will also be reduced considerably, and school students will soon get a break from the daily monotony of rice, sambar and boiled egg.

Thousands of Corporation School students belonging to weaker sections of the society will be the beneficiaries of the new menu.
